Honouring The Gold Mountain Dreamers – Grit and Forbearance in a Cold Land

Honouring the Gold Mountain Dreamers: Grit and Forbearance in a Cold Land shares the powerful, often untold stories of Chinese Canadians whose lives were shaped by the 1923 Chinese Immigration Act and its long shadow on families and communities.

Calgary writer Jacqueline Louie brings these histories to life through personal accounts of hardship, separation, resilience, and reunion, honouring the “Gold Mountain” dreamers whose labour and courage helped build Canada.

Join us on April 18 at 2 pm for a free author reading and conversation, where Jacqueline will read from her book, reflect on the legacy of exclusion and perseverance, and invite discussion on how these stories continue to resonate today.

All are welcome to this community event; admission is free, and donations to support ongoing cultural programming at The Langham are appreciated.

Copies of the book will be available for sale at the event.
