Indigenous Arts Project: Grandmother Drum-Making

The Langham Cultural Society, in partnership with the Circle of Indigenous Nations Society (COINS), is proud to present the Indigenous Traditional Arts Project, a series of free community workshops celebrating Indigenous arts, culture, and knowledge through hands-on learning experiences.

Throughout the series, participants will have the opportunity to learn directly from Indigenous artists, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers who will share traditional artistic practices, cultural teachings, stories, and lived experiences.

These workshops are open to everyone. Whether you are Indigenous or non-Indigenous, the project invites our community to gather together through creativity, curiosity, and intercultural understanding. By learning traditional art forms directly from Indigenous knowledge holders, participants gain a deeper appreciation for the rich cultures, histories, and living traditions of Indigenous Peoples while building meaningful relationships within our community.

Community Grandmother Drum-Making & Cultural Sharing

Join Gitxsan Knowledge Carrier Brittany Haugen for a powerful afternoon of traditional drum-making and cultural sharing.

Participants will learn about the cultural significance of the drum, cedar teachings, traditional protocols, and song while creating a community grandmother drum together. Join us for two afternoons of stories, teachings, and food while experiencing the beautiful art of the Drum!

This drum making series includes 2 sessions, we encourage all participants to attend both afternoons. On August 22nd we will be making the drum and on September 19th we will be awakening the drum together with song.

No previous experience is necessary, and all materials are provided. Registration required as spots are limited.
